Igor Popov is one of those painters whose moral, social and creative outlooks were drawn from the profoundly philosophical attitude toward the realities of the contemporary world. His talent was determined by his intention to express ingenuous thoughts and daring emotions in chamber motifs and outwardly simple subjects.

Popov was born in Kharkov in 1927. A 1951 graduate of the Surikov State Art Institute in Moscow where he studied under Gerasimov and Pochitalov, Popov began exhibiting in 1954 in Republican and All-Union exhibitions.
