    Goth was very poor during his younger days and often paid for food in a restaurant by painting portraits on menu cards. He had to flee Germany after he painted a portrait which created headlines something like, 'Goering the morphine addict by the Jewish painter who fled for his life. A portrait of Goering, a leading Nazi, painted by a Jewish artist is being offered for sale.' In fact Goth fled to Britain where he soon gained a good reputation as a portrait painter. Goth's thirties works are much in demand....
