    Inez Estella Hoyton, nee Crowther, was born in Winchester in 1914. She studied at Leeds College of Art where she met the etcher and painter Edward Bouverie Hoyton who she married in 1935.

    After a spell teaching, they moved to Cornwall where he was made principal of the Penzance School of Art in 1941, associating with many of the key artists of the day such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson.

    She travelled widely especially in Greece, Italy and Spain, though much of her work is based in the landscape of Cornwall where she was a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists, the St Ives Society of Artists and the Penwith Society.
