Ismael Kateregga is a graduate of Makerere University where he studied industrial Design and Fine Art. Forsaking applied design he started his career as a painter on leaving university, establishing himself as one of Uganda's most consistently successful visual artists whose work has been exhibited in Africa and Europe and sold successfully at international auctions.

Kateregga's canvases capture the vibrancy and vividness of Ugandan life and landscapes obliquely referencing cultural and social change within his country. His work is rooted in minutiae of daily life in Kampala and on the shores of lake Victoria.
