  • Biography

Ivan Augustovich Veltz was an Austrian-Russian artist who captured the beautiful landscapes of the Russian countryside. Veltz attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg before joining the Petrograd Society of Artists and Kuindzhi’s Society. As follower of “The Wanderers” artist movement, Veltz hoped to move away from the strict restrictions of the Academy to paint the landscapes of the countryside with a new sense of realism.

Most notable for his sweeping landscapes, Veltz traveled throughout Russia and Eastern Europe, depicting nature with almost mystic qualities. His paintings were regularly exhibited with the Moscow Society of Lovers of the Arts and St. Petersburg Society of Artists.
