    James Brereton is a specialist in marine painting. His paintings show a meticulous attention to detail in his portrayal of sailing ships and boats alongside beautiful seascapes and sunsets.

    James Brereton was born in Derby and studied at the Joseph Wright School in Derby. He spent much of the 1970s in a job he disliked in the gas industry, but continued painting during his spare time.

    By 1979, he decided he was professional enough to concentrate on his painting and give up his 'day job'. His main influences are Thomas Somerscales, Montague Dawson and Charles Dixon.
