    James Kay (1858-1942) was a Scottish painter known for his landscape paintings, particularly of the Clyde shipping reaches. He achieved critical acclaim and commercial success in Scotland and Europe, with a studio in Glasgow and living in Argyll. Kay was a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Scottish Academy. His work showed originality influenced by impressionism and he received recognition at various European exhibitions. Notable awards include a silver medal in Rouen and a gold medal at the Paris Salon.
