    Jan Griffier I was trained in landscape painting and printed graphics by Roelant Roghman (ca. 1620-1686).

    In 1666, the artist moved to London, where he continued his studies. In 1695, he returned to the Netherlands, but suffered a shipwreck off the Dutch coast upon his return.

    Ten years later, he again returned to London to settle finally settle down. He gained notoriety for his work in engraving, but especially for his views of London, and by Rhine and Moselle landscapes.
