    Jan Henderikse was born in 1937. He got his start as an informal painter.

    The artist lived in Cologne between 1959 and 1961, before moving to Dusseldorf, following the suggestion of Günther Uecker. While in Düsseldorf, he had the studio next to Joseph Beuys.

    In 1960, Henderikse co-founded the Dutch Zero group Nul. He began experimenting with assemblages, and the impact of large amounts of common objects such as corks, piles of beer crates, license plates, and money.

    Between 1963 and 1967, Henderikse lived in Curaçao. In 1968, he moved to Brooklyn. Today the artist lives in Antwerp and New York.
