    Bohumil Kafka was a Czech sculptor born in 1880 in Nové Mesto na Morave/Bohemia. He completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and trained as a sculptor in Horice. He then worked as a stonemason and studied at the Prague Academy of Arts under Josef Myslbek. However, Kafka destroyed a large number of his works due to severe criticism from Myslbek. Kafka was strongly influenced by World War 1. From 1922 to 1924, he acted as rector of the Prague Academy of Arts.
