    In 1977 Jean Baptiste Isabey began his apprenticeship in the studio of historical painter Jean Giradet in Nancy and after further training he joined the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1787. After a short time he is part of the studio of Jacques-Louis David and becomes one of his favorite students. He also becomes friends with Francios Gérard, Anne-Louis Girodet and Antoine-Jean Gros.

    Louis Sicardi introduces him to miniature painting in 1787 and Isabey decides to specialize in this direction. In 1791 he exhibits first drawings and miniatures at the Exposition des Arts Libres of art dealer Pierre Lebrun. His mostly flattering miniatures attract the attention of art lovers an...
