Louis Sicardi introduces him to miniature painting in 1787 and Isabey decides to specialize in this direction. In 1791 he exhibits first drawings and miniatures at the Exposition des Arts Libres of art dealer Pierre Lebrun. His mostly flattering miniatures attract the attention of art lovers and critics.
