    Jean Cheller (b. 1911, Bucharest, Romania - d. 1952, Bucharest, Romania) was a German-Romanian artist known for his expressionist paintings depicting still life and urban landscapes, particularly focusing on the slums of Bucharest. He studied painting at the National University of Arts in Bucharest under Gheorghe Petra?cu and faced challenges due to his German-Austrian heritage under the socialist regime. Despite being Petra?cu's favorite student, Cheller's artistic reputation suffered, and he was falsely accused of reproducing his mentor's work, leading to alleged imprisonment. This resulted in Cheller becoming a discreet presence in the local art scene, with limited participation in exhibitions....
