    Jean Signovert was a French artist who attended the Saint-Étienne School of Fine Arts in 1943. He was introduced to Aimé Maeght by his friend Roger Chastel, and was exhibited immediately and permanently in Maeght's new gallery. Signovert was skilled in drawing and engraving, and quickly became a part of the art world, befriending artists such as Georges Braque, Jacques Villon, Henri Laurens, Alberto Giacometti, Nicolas de Staël, Alexander Calder, Roger Bissière, and Jean Arp. He also became acquainted with writers such as Francis Ponge, Pierre Reverdy, and René Char.
