    Joachim Frich was born in 1810. Joachim Frich was originally from Bergen, in Norway. Frich entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1836 and took lessons from Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, Johan Ludwig Lund and Johan Frederik Møller.

    Frich perfected his skills at the Gipsskolen and the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, where he was a pupil of Johan Christian Dahl. The paintings of Carl Rottman, which he discovered while staying in Munich, also influenced him.

    Passionate about the protection and preservation of the Norwegian heritage, the landscapes of his homeland remained Frich's preferred subject: this spectacular view of a glacier is a perfect example.
