    Joaquín Vaquero Turcios was a Spanish artist born in Oviedo, Asturias. He was the son of architect and painter Joaquín Vaquero Palacios. Vaquero Turcios began his career as a draughtsman and had his first exhibition in Madrid in 1950. He spent seventeen years in Rome studying architecture and participated in the decoration of the Grandas de Salime dam and power station in Asturias with his father.

    He was known for his ability to alternate painting with murals, engraving, and sculpture, incorporating what he had seen and learned on his travels, training, and reading. He received numerous prizes and awards, including the Gold Medal at the Salzburg Biennial in 1957 and the First Prize for Painting at the III Biennial in Paris in 1...
