    Johann Baptist Straub was a German sculptor born in 1704 in Wiesensteig. He came from a family of sculptors and worked for four years in the court art circle in Munich with the court sculptor Gabriel Luidl. He subsequently worked in Vienna from 1726 to 1734 before returning to Munich in 1734. Prince-Elector Karl Albrecht of Bavaria appointed him court sculptor in 1737. Straub mainly decorated churches and monasteries in Upper Bavaria, and his workshop was the most important in Munich at his time. His most important pupil was Ignaz Günther. Straub died in Munich in 1784.
