About John Christopher Miles

  • Biography

    John Christopher Miles, 1837-1911, was born in St John, New Brunswick. He began his studies in 1866 at the Lowell Institute in Boston and continued later under Benjamin Champney. He was a member of the Boston Art Club for eleven years and kept a studio in Boston, while living in Malden, MA . He was also a member of the Association of the Royal Canadian Academy. In the summer of 1874 he visited the salon of the famed poet Celia Thaxter at the Isles of Shoals in Rye, New Hampshire. There he painted with Childe Hassam, William Trost Richards and Arthur Quartley.
