About John Clemmer

    John Clemmer was born in the rural town of Donaldsonville, Louisiana on July 22, 1921. He moved with his family to New Orleans in 1928. In 1939, he graduated from High School and began studies at the New Orleans Art School until 1942. Clemmer served in the army from 1942-1946. He returned to his art studies at night at the New Orleans Art School.

    In 1948, he had his first one-man show in the city at Arts and Crafts Club of New Orleans. Clemmer began as a drawing instructor in 1951 at the Tulane University School of Architecture where he taught art until his retirement in 1986.
