He returned to his art studies at night at the New Orleans Art School. In 1948, he had his first one-man show in the city at Arts and Crafts Club of New Orleans. Clemmer began as a drawing instructor in 1951 at the Tulane University School of Architecture where he taught art until his retirement in 1986.
