  • Biography

    Painter. Born in Virserum, Sweden on Oct. 1, 1893. Dominique came to the U.S. in 1898 and spent his youth in Oregon where he began his art career as a typesetter and cartoonist for a small newspaper. He later worked at the Portland Art Museum, attended art classes there in 1913, and then continued his studies in San Francisco at the Institute of Art (1915-16) and the Van Sloun School of Painting (1917). He had further study in the 1920s at the Santa Barbara School of Arts under C. C. Cooper and C. 0. Borg. In the 1930s Dominique had a studio in Santa Barbara and in Canby, OR in 1941. He continued painting at his home in Ojai, CA until his death on Feb. 20, 1994. His early watercolors and oils were Impressionist but later evolved into Abstra
