    A specialist in landscape painting, Josep Berga y Boada was the main disciple of his father, Josep Berga i Boix, under whose tutelage he trained as a painter. One of the main introducers of modernism in Olot, he was a member of the Institute of Arts, Sciences and Industries of said population. He also collaborated with writings and illustrations in "Catalunya artistica", "La Ilustració Catalana", "L'Esquella de la Torratxa" and "L'Olotí", of which he was director. He stood out above all as a draftsman, and he also worked on sculpture, illustrated a large number of books and made numerous posters. As a professor of drawing at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Feliu, the city where he lived since 1912, he produced a series of still unpublished treatises on the didactics of drawing. It is represented in the Regional Museum of La Garrotxa and in that of the Santos de Olot.
