    José Blanco Coris was a Spanish painter, writer, and professor at the School of Arts and Crafts of Madrid. He was born in Malaga and trained at the School of Fine Arts in the same city. Blanco Coris began his career painting history paintings in the 19th-century style, but later evolved towards a less sweetened costumbrismo and began to cultivate still life.

    He was also interested in Japanese and East Asian art and wrote a "Manual of Decorative Art" in which he dedicated chapters to the arts of China and Japan. Blanco Coris was critical of the avant-garde and remained outside of it. He had a notable teaching career, beginning as an assistant at the School of Fine Arts in Malaga and later becoming a full professor at the School ...
