    Josep Aragay was a Catalan painter, ceramist, and art theorist who played a significant role in the development of Noucentisme. In 1911, Aragay was appointed by Eugeni d’Ors to oversee the visual direction of the Almanac dels Noucentistes, a key publication of the movement. He held his first solo exhibition in 1913 at the Galeries Dalmau, and between 1916 and 1917 he traveled to Italy, where he received the commission to design the ceramic tiles for the fountain at Portal de l’Àngel in Barcelona. After teaching ceramic decoration at the Escuela Superior de Bells Oficis, Josep Aragay settled in Breda in 1925 and founded a ceramic workshop that became central to his later production.
