About Joseph B Kahill

    Joseph Kahill was born in 1882 in Alexandria, Egypt and immigrated to the United States in 1898, where he eventually settled in Portland, Maine and did portrait and winter landscape painting but was primarily known as a portrait painter.

    He studied in France under the Impressionist artists Raphael Collin, Rene Prinet, Jean-Paul Laurens, and Richard Miller. Impressionist works are characterized by broad, expressive brushstrokes and the careful and accurate depiction of light and shadow.

    Kahill spent time in Paris, France, where his works were first shown in 1909. There, he made his mark as a portrait painter and was commissioned by many prominent politicians.
