From 1912 Bató lived and worked in Berlin, where he worked until 1936, when he emigrated to England. Impressionistic landscapes with motifs from his homeland determine the early work. In addition to landscape depictions, his oeuvre mainly includes city and harbor views. There are also murals depicting contemporary motifs for villas, country houses and public buildings, including the Berlin Department Store of the West and the Berlin Zehlendorf Town Hall.
