    Jules Schyl (AKA: Jules Victor Schyl, Jules Victor Richard Schyl, Victor Jules Richard Schyl) was a painter, graphic artist, printmaker and collector (1) and a pioneer of modern art in Sweden. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and died in Malmo, Sweden (2) where he had lived most of his life.

    His mediums were oil, watercolour, gouache, pastel, graphite, chalk, drypoint engraving, etching, and lithography. His subjects were landscapes, urban scenes, still life, portraits, figures, nudes and genre. The landscape locations are in his homelands of Sweden and Denmark as well as from his travels in Europe.
