    After first successful city views of Berlin the oeuvre of the Berlin painter, Julius Jacob the Younger (1842-1929) focused further on the old city of Berlin and the growing big city. A watercolor cycle of 70 works made him one of the most famous chroniclers of Old Berlin (1862-1885). His painting of the Wilhelmplatz (1886) is one of his best-known paintings.

    His landscape paintings show influences of Carl Blechen and the Barbizon School. Julius originally trained at the studio of Karl Wilhelm Gropius as a painter to the court theater for the Berliner Bühnen and then worked for them as a scene painter.
