1943, Lee Kang-So was born in Daegu, Korea. In the beginning as an artist, he focused on avant-garde activities such as installing and performing performances, but later he started painting. 1983, he got Seoul International Biennial Print Exhibition Award.

He has served as a visiting professor at University at Albany – State University of New York since 1985. He has dramatically increased his name recognition by taking the 3rd Lee In-Sung award in 2002 and became one of the leading artists of contemporary Korean art.
