    Karen Schacht, a prominent artist of the Usedom artists' community, began her painting studies in 1928 under Hans Hofmann in Munich. She later studied at Johannes Walter-Kurau's art school in Berlin, where she met Otto Manigk. Schacht's skills acquired there were foundational for her artistic career. Despite persecution by the Nazi regime, she lived in Ückeritz on the island of Usedom from 1939, where she made significant contributions to 20th-century landscape painting. Her work was declared degenerate by the Nazis, leading to challenges in her artistic pursuits.
