Purrmann-Haufler first apprenticed as a decorative painter and later studied at the Stuttgart School of Arts and Crafts under Karl Schickhardt. He went on study trips throughout Germany and to Belgium, Holland, England, and Paris. From 1903 to 1918, he taught nude and figure drawing at the Königliche Fachschule für Edelmetallindustrie Schwäbisch Gmünd. Afterward, he worked as a freelance artist and collaborated with the architectural office Beutinger & Steiner. Purrmann-Haufler was active in Stuttgart and died in 1966.
