    Krummacher arrived in Worpswede in 1899 after his studies in Munich and became part of the local artists' colony around Otto Modersohn and Hans am Ende.

    In Lower Saxony, Germany northeast of Bremen, it is a small town whose environs have attracted artists since the end of the 19th century. In its heyday, over 130 artists were working there including Fritz Mackensen, Clara Westhoff and Otto and Paula Modersohn. Its origins as an art colony are attributed to Mimi Stolte, daughter of a Worpswede shopkeeper, who met Fritz Mackensen when he was a young art student.
