    Carl Stohner was a German painter, art dealer and art consultant. As an artist he was self-taught and dedicated himself to art at a young age. He was discovered and promoted by the director of the Kunsthalle in Mannheim Fritz Wichert in 1911. From 1912-14 at the expense Wicherts, Stohner took a study trip to Paris. There he was influenced by the Barbizon school, Degas, Vincent van Gogh, Cezanne and Renoir. In 1914 he returned to Mannheim. He continued to go on study trips to Holland , Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland, as well as regular study visits to Paris. In Mannheim he founded a "Free Academy" in 1924 to promote young artists. In 1952 he was founder of the artistic circle St. Hildegard.
