Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach was born in 1851 in Hadamar. Diefenbach was an independent exponent of the Art Nouveau movement and Symbolism. Since 1974, in Capri, a museum has been dedicated to his works, housed in the Certosa di San Giacomo, where Diefenbach spent several years of his life. In the Capri landscape, Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach found naturalistic glimpses of great inspiration for his works that he exhibited in the atelier in via Camerelle, behind the Piazzetta of Capri.
