    Karl Wilhelm Gentz (1822-1890)

    He visited the renowned studio of August von Kloeber in Berlin, and studied at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts in 1845. In 1846, he moved to Paris and worked in the studio of Paul Delaroche. He traveled to Spain, Morocco, Malta, Egypt, Sinai, Asia Minor, Constantinople, and Vienna. In 1852, he temporarily lived in Berlin, where he first visited orientalist subjects. Back in Paris, he worked in the studio of Thomas Couture. Since 1858, Gentz was settled in Berlin and created several Egyptian depictions. In 1873, he traveled to Jerusalem on behalf of the Prussian Crown Prince. Between 1874 and 1890, Gentz was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 18...
