    Karl or Charles Kotasz was a Hungarian painter, ornament draftsman, and wood cutter born in Budapest in 1872. He studied at the Budapest School of Applied Arts with Gusztáv Morelli from 1894 to 1899, and then worked as an ornament draftsman in a construction office. He continued his studies at the Academy in Munich from 1900 to 1903 with Gabriel von Hackl and Otto Seitz, and then went on a study trip to Paris for a year, where he was a student of Jean Paul Laurens. Kotasz also traveled to Italy, Germany, and Belgium. He began exhibiting his work in Budapest in 1904 and became an art educator and headmaster in Budapest in 1906.
