About Kate Shepherd

  • Biography

    From New York City, Kate Shepherd is known for her minimalist, abstract paintings, miniature drawings, wax sculptures, and for site-specific installations. Many of her paintings are diptychs with strongly delineated dividing seams, and "the linear elements sometimes run slightly askew as they move from panel to panel." (King) In some of her exhibitions, she has created small drawings on paint chips including birds, butterflies, and the movie character E.T.

    She trained at the New York Academy of Art, earning an Master's Certificate in 1996; the School of Visual Arts, M.F.A. in 1992; and in 1990 at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Shepherd earned her BFA at Oberlin College in 1989.
