About Katherine Marshall Nakamarra

  • Biography

Katherine Marshall Nakamarra is a talented Papunya Tula artist who is the daughter to the acclaimed Pintupi artists Walangkura Napanangka and Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula from Australia. Katherine started painting around 1986 and learnt her sacred Dreaming from her mother. Katherine like her mother, represents the women’s Dreaming known as ‘Women’s Ceremony’ which represent the sacred ceremonies within her community. The artist paints the iconography of her Country in Kintore mapping out the sacred sites where the women would gather for their traditional ceremonies. Katherine beautifully portrays her Dreaming through a joined dotting technique, that is perfectly complemented by her use of bold and bright colours throughout the canvas.
