About Koji Kamoji

  • Biography

Koji Kamoji was born in 1935.

Koji Kamoji moved to Poland at the end of the 1950's. He did not come here by accident, because his family had been associated with Polish culture for many years - his mother's brother and uncle were involved in translating Polish literature into Japanese.

At that time, the very journey by ship had a great influence on him - in the artist's memories it appears as a moment of an extremely intense feeling of nature: the presence of water, sky and air, as well as the infinity of space.

The reminiscences of this journey can be seen in virtually all of Koji Kamoji's works, especially in the series of works created in the years later referred to as "Pruszków paintings".
