In 1962, he was transferred to the China Revolutionary Military Museum to be a painter. He retired there in 1987. His work Before Launching Attack was collected by China Art Museum. The Military Committee Meeting, his work painted with Gao Hong, won a 2nd Class Prize on the 5th National Art Exhibition. He has published two books, Selection of Oil Paintings by He Kongde and Selection of He Kongde's Paintings.
