His love for music was inspired by his mother, the Greek violinist Mary Galan, who in 1936, just after a few years of an unhappy marriage, abandoned her young family and fled abroad to pursue a career as the orchestra leader at the Sydney Opera House and the Victoria Symphony Orchestra in...
