About Larry Riley

    A former dentist-turned-artist, Larry Riley is a painter of photo-real Indian portraits and figures, primarily Navajos, and western scenes including rodeos. He is a native of Oregon where he graduated from the University of Oregon dental school, but in 1982 decided to move to Arizona and make the commitment to full-time artist.

    From childhood, he has had a fascination with Indian culture, and he began painting the Nez Perce while living in the Pacific Northwest. He works from photographs and is primarily interested in portraits, doing the drawing first, then blocking in the color, and putting in the details at the end.
