    Miss Laura Hoernig was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1872. She lived at 22 West 58th Street in Kansas City during the 1920's.

    Hoernig studied and sometimes traveled with artist George Sass. Like fellow Kansas City artist Daniel MacMorris (1893-1981), it is thought Sass encouraged Miss Hoernig to travel to Taos, N.M. It was the landscape, pueblos, and colors of Taos that influenced her painting for the rest of her career. It is known that Hoernig had travel to Taos by at least 1923 and made frequent trips there through the 1930's or later.
