About Leo Sewell

  • Biography

    He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland, and moved to Philadelphia in 1974. Education: M.A. in Art History, University of Delaware, 1970-concentration in 20th century art; thesis entitled "Use of the Found Object in Dada and Surrealism." Media: reclaimed objects assembled by stainless fasteners or by welding. His sculptures are composed of recognizable objects of plastic, metal, and wood. These objects are chosen for their color, shape, texture, durability, and patina; then are assembled using nails, bolts, and screws. The outdoor sculptures are constructed of stainless steel, brass, or aluminum found objects which are welded together. Member of the Philadelphia Dumpster Divers.
