    Leon Kowalski was a Polish artist born in Kyiv in 1870. He studied at the Muraszki Painting School in Kyiv and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków with Luszczkiewicz, Unierzyski, and Wyczólkowski. He also studied in Munich with Raupp and in Paris with Laurens, Constant, and Girardot. Kowalski returned to Poland in 1905 and founded the Polish School of Fine Arts in Kiev in 1917. He was known for his religious and genre scenes, landscapes, flowers, portraits, woodcutting, and lithography. Kowalski exhibited his works at TPSP and TZSP. He died in Krakow in 1937.
