    Zhang Leping was born in 1910 in Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province. His father was a rural teacher, and his mother was good at embroidery and paper-cutting.

    He was Zhang Leping's earliest art enlightener. San Mao, created in 1935, became one of the most famous cartoon stars in China at that time.

    After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he served as a member of the Wartime Working Committee of the National Comic Writers Association, etc., and promoted the anti-Japanese national salvation. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he returned to Shanghai and served as a director of the National Cartoonists Association.
