    Lois Pregartbauer was born in Styria in 1899. He is essentially considered a self-taught artist, but has attended the Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Applied Arts in Vienna as a student of Oskar Strnad.

    Pregartbauer was member of the Hagenbund, the Künstlerhaus and the Secession, which were three of the most significant Viennese artists' associations at the time. He participated in the world exposition 1935 in Brussels and the first Biennale in Sao Paulo in 1951. In addition, he was honored with several awards.

    Stylistically Pregartbauer's oeuvre is not easy to classify. Remaining committed to the figurative painting, his works were influenced by the New Objectivity in the early 1930s as well as cons...
