    German artist, Lothar Hempel was born in 1966. Hempel's works often engage the viewer as a character in the story he is depicting. They often represent multiple stages of the narrative of the scene, and reference German film, music, history and psychology. He looks for influence from German artists and movements in history such as the Bauhaus, Dada, and Joseph Beuys.

    His works have been exhibited worldwide, including the retrospective exhibition ‘Alphabet City’ in Grenoble. Since 1991, he has been included in large-scale exhibitions including the Venice Biennale, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, MoMA PS1, New York, and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, to name a few.
