    Louis Benjamin Hughes Floutier, painter, was born March 31, 1882 in Toulouse, France, where he took his first five years of artistic training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Toulouse in the paint shop of Mr. Charles Laborde. He joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris in the studio of Fernand Cormon November 3, 1903. He received the first Grand Prix de Rome*.

    He participated in the First World War as a volunteer in the 13th Regiment of Artillery and Engineering first as zapper.

    He settled in the Basque Country in 1919 and participated in the founding of Pottery Ciboure Lukas Villotte.

    From 1922 he focused on the Basque countryside.

    He died in Saint Jean de Luz October 26, 1936.
