    Lucien Martial (1892 – 1987)

    A prominent French painter, muralist, educator, and draftsman, Lucien Raoul Jean Martial was born in Paris, France and died there; he also lived and taught in Quebec City, Canada for ten years (c.1925 – 1936). Martial was a winner of the Prix de Rome*, a member of the French Legion of Honor, an Officer de l’Ordre National du Merite, and an Officer des Palmes académiques. His painting "The Slide at Quebec" was featured in the Carnegie International Exhibition shown at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1931. His works are in the collections of the Musee Nationale de la Marine, Paris and the Quebec Museum of Fine Arts, Quebec City. (1)(2)
